The People Perch
The People Perch at Caribbean Villas (shown above) is unique in San Pedro Town. It is an observation tower built three stories high to rise above the surrounding jungle. From its platforms you can enjoy the rich variety of birds that live and visit this tropic isle. The People Perch demonstrates Caribbean Villas' commitment to your experience of this beautiful island.
Roughly half of the grounds have been left as littoral forest to serve as a bird sanctuary and contains a vast abundance of fruiting trees and shrubs. Sitting in the center is our towering "people perch" providing birders a superb opportunity to view birds from above the canopy of flowers and trees. The tower also provides a magnificient 360 degree view of the Caribbean to the east, Hol Chan Marine Preserve to the south, San Pedro to the north and west to the San Pedro Lagoon and the Chetumal Bay beyond.
Birds frequently seen from the "people perch" have included vireos, the common tody flycatcher, great Kiskadees, black catbirds, seedeaters, golden fronted woodpeckers, orioles and many others. We hope your visit to the "perch" rewards you with a variety of sitings. Happy birding!!
